GA4 Conversion Rate

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

There’s a lot to get to grips with in the new Google Analytics 4 (GA4) dashboard.

Finding out your conversion rate is one such challenge. Although in recent times, Google has made improvements to make it easier to find your conversion rate.

As of July 1st, 2023 the switchover to GA4 becomes mandatory, unless you opt to track your website analytics through another tool.

So if you’re yet to master conversations in GA4, here is how to find your conversion rate in the demo account.

Once you’ve migrated your own analytics account over to GA4, you can then track the types of conversions applicable to your business through GA4.

What Are GA4 Conversions?

Conversions in GA4 relate to any action happening on your website that is of any value.

For instance, an ecommerce store may want to track items being added to a cart. Or if you have a blog, you may want to track the amount of users entering their email into a newsletter signup box.

Some of the conversions you can track on GA4 include:

  • Account sign-ups
  • App installations
  • Content downloads
  • Completed purchase
  • Engagements
  • Email newsletter subscriptions
  • Form submissions
  • Video views

Finding GA4 Conversion Rate Metrics

On your Google Analytics 4 demo or connected dashboard, head to the ‘Explore’ tab.

On ‘tab settings’ we’ve dragged across several properties we want to track for our conversions, including ‘sessions’, ‘conversions’ and ‘session conversions’.

From there, we are then able to view the ‘session conversion rate’ on the report.

It’s easy to see each conversion rate given as a percentage. In our example, you can also see the source of the conversion.

All of the data can be viewed as different visual charts, or exported to create reports.

Alternatively, to manually calculate the GA4 conversion rate, you would need to divide the number of conversions by the total number of sessions.

So for instance, if you had 6 sessions on your website and 2 of those customers made a purchase, the conversion rate would be 33.34%.
